REVIEWS
“In the twenty-five or so years that I’ve been reviewing music, I’ve heard a lot of eclectic and hard-to-categorize music, and I’ve seen a lot of music used to raise funds for some very worth-while projects, but “Peace and Joy (Mendelssohn/Mozart World)” just might top everything else in all of those aspects!”
“Classical pianist Sophia Agranovich and world music producer/musician/ composer Rupam Sarmah have assembled an international group of musicians to collaborate on a unique improvisation and arrangement of timeless pieces by Mendelssohn and Mozart, going far beyond a classical reading of the music by incorporating a whole range of genres, instruments and traditions.”
“One of the most buoyant and certainly the most unusual performance of Mozart’s very popular “Alla Turca” I’ve ever heard – and I’ve seen and heard a lot of them! …A wonderful expression of happiness, the joy of life, and universal love. You can’t help but smile and feel uplifted by this truly exceptional blending of East and West music traditions!”

“A vibrant reimagining of Mendelssohn and Mozart through the lens of world music…Peace and Joy is a performance by a thoroughly talented ensemble and is a playful mix of Eastern and Western instrumentation…
It’s a delightful take on a classic piece; Sarmah’s arrangement carries all the energy of the original but the rich instrumentation, and soaring vocal part, provide an exotic twist. The track smoothly segues into some Mendelhsson melodies, allowing Agranovich’s piano skills to shine. A beautifully composed outro sees the sitar play variations on the Alla Turca theme and Garrett’s vocal brings us to a superb climax.
It is heart-warming to see so many gifted musicians join together and produce music for such an important cause; Peace and Joy is a testament to the power of music as a force for good. The individual performances are stellar, and hats must go off to Sarmah and Agranovich for their imaginative weaving of sounds both familiar and new.”
